The Five-Year Mark

I just celebrated my five-year anniversary of being Cancer Free!!

Surviving Cancer has given me many blessings-too many to count.

Gratitude, the sisterhood of the journey, along with appreciation of the smallest of things to name a few!

The journey began on the golf course as I I received the call that I indeed had Stage 2 CANCER. Overwhelmed I called all my friends and family and drove that golf cart the last 9 holes but didn’t have the heart to continue to play.

As it all sunk in I had no idea where to start. The nurse that delivered the news said start with a breast surgeon. What? Surgeon? So will I require surgery? So many unknowns …….overwhelmed and stunned I began my journey.

I reached out to my neighbor who had Breast Cancer. She sat down with me and said “Put your head down and do it”. "One day at a time”. "You can do it!" Having a breast cancer confidant meant so much at the time. I now have many wonderful friends that can relate to my journey-they come out of the woodwork to support you. Breast Cancer warriors are the most amazing supportive network of beautiful women-another BLESSING

Two years before my diagnosis my kid’s dad passed away from juvenile onset diabetes-at the age of 52. This gave me strength to fight and win the battle against this terrible disease. I won and continue to do what I need to do to stay cancer free-bone infusions and 5 more years of Anastrazole.

When things get rough I remember my friend: “Put your head down and go”!! You can do this. The sisterhood of Breast Cancer survivors is what got me through this journey, BLESSED.
